A surprise at Studenterhuset!

It's been a while since the last update but the gig at Studenterhuset definitely deserves an entry of its own.

We played here with Sock Puppets on the 8th of April for Copenhagen Student Radio. It was a lot of fun. Sock Puppets sounded great, Elise came in and sang with us as our main girl vocalist and everything went as well as it ever does. We sounded good from where I was standing and the backing 4-track worked, which is the most that can ever be expected of it or us .

The gig was going well and people seemed to be enjoying themselves when just before the final song, miracles aren't what they used to be, someone came up to the stage and asked if he could play the drums the sock puppets had used. We've only played with a human drummer once - and that was at Kaninkanon in Copenhagen when Mikkel came up and accompanied us on Miracles aren't what they used to be. Weird coincidence. Anyway Claus played really well and we invited him to join the band there and then. We only had a week to get ready for the Copenhagen popfest, but dear reader, nothing ventured...

Roadside Poppies in Copenhagen on the 23rd of Jan 2010

So we've got our first gig of the year in Nottingham tomorrow but I'm pleased to announce our 2nd gig, just one week later in Copenhagen. It's at Huset near Magstreade doors open at 21:00 and tickets are a mere 30kr. The other bands playing are Ampel and Sock Puppets so this one is set to be lots of fun and great value at 10kr per band!

Hi again, and happy new year. We're starting the year with a couple of gigs and who knows, we may even keep the momentum up and release lots more songs and play lots more gigs this year :)

We're going to be playing at the Speak Easy pub in Nottingham with the brilliant Red Shoe Diaries and the superb pop of Horowitz. More details: lastfm , facebook, anorak and myspace. We're really looking forward to playing our first gig of 2010 and having lots of fun. Many thanks to Ian for organising it all.

Our girly vocals for this gig will be provided by the ever-helpful Elise. We've been learning one of Martin's latest songs "If you can't have him have me" and I'm looking forward to some quality ba-ba-ba-ing.

We're playing a gig in Copenhagen the week after on the 23rd (which is also my birthday) more details soon.

DJ-ing at Banana Hold Up on Christmas day

I'm going to be converting digital bits to analogue vibrations at the second ever Banana Hold Up at Jolene Bar in Copenhagen, I'll be assisted in the task by poppies helper Elise. Im not sure when we'll be playing but it should be a fun evening of winter indiepop. I'll try and find some snow related songs for the night :)

As the first in a semi-regular (i.e. when we can be arsed) series, I thought I'd post a new song from the vast archive of demos we've accumulated over the past few years whilst trying to finish our second EP/album/career spanning boxset.This one dates from our rpm challenge this year, during which I was finishing reading "The Penguin History of the World". Not the history of penguins mind you- maybe that's another song.

Copenhagen and Cambridge Roadside Poppies

Oh dear, I've been very bad at posting updates. I do have a good excuse though, I've moved to Copenhagen.

We're now a band with members in Copenhagen and Cambridge. We've written new songs and are busy practicing so we can play somes shows again very soon. We'll be playing at the amazing indietracks festival in derbyshire and at the end of june in cambridge (tba).

Our next gig is at Swiss concrete night at the Port Mahon in Oxford on the 7th of October. Tickets for a mere 3 pounds.

We've had an amazing couple of weeks since the last update. We've played our three best gigs! KaninKanon V went brilliantly and we loved playing at On our honeymoon in Gothenburg and the homecoming gig with Bunnygrunt, Sunny Intervals and Karmadillo at the portland arms was tremendous. European trip for the Poppies

It's almost midnight and we have to leave cambridge at 4:30am tomorrow morning. We're leaving for our first international gigs!

We're going to play in Copenhagen on saturday and Gothenburg on the saturday after.

We'd love to meet up with indiepop folk anywhere along the way so email us if you live want to hang out with the poppies!

Best gig ever with the Besties

Has it only been a week since the gig with the Besties? What an awesome gig it was. Some videos here and some photos here

Our next gig is on the 1st of sept at the Octopus Ride night at the Globe Alehouse in Cambridge.

The dates of our euro trip have changed, we'll be around in Denmark and Sweden from the 14-22 of September. We've got a couple of gigs planned, but we'd love to play more, so please do get in touch if you can help out.

We're still looking for a female singer so get in touch if you like the sort of stuff we're doing :)

Kaninkanon in Copenhagen

We've got a couple of gigs in cambridge on the horizon. The 7th of august at the Loft with the Besties. Which should be a superb night of pop. I'm a big fan of their stuff and the new songs are amazing. Another gig on the 1st of September playing at the monthly Octopus ride night at the Globe Ale House.

Other news is that we're planning a Euro road-trip around the 7th-15th of September and are going to try and play in various northern european locations, hopefully near Amsterdam,Hamburg, Aarhus, Gothenberg, Malmo and Copenhagen.

You can check out our travel map here. We're going to play at KaninKanon V in Copenhagen on the 15th but would be grateful for help with the other locations.

How does it feel gig!

3 months have passed so quickly! We've got some new though. We're
playing a couple of gigs!

The first is on the 13th of June at the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, Hinxton as part of a campus music evening. We're headlining ;)

We're also playing at the Windmill in Brixton as part of the "How does it feel to be loved" night on the 21st of June, the longest day. We're on first at 8:00pm. We'd love to have some people there to listen to us and dance, don't be late.

RPM Challenge album completed!

We've finished our album for the RPM challenge!

We have 10 shiny new songs, all recorded in the month of February. It's been tough particularly as Martin moved to Geneva at the start of the month but it's also been a tremdendously enjoyable experience.

After rather a late night yesterday, I posted a CD of our album to the folks at rpm challenge just this morning. I've even got a photo of me putting the envelope in the bag. I can recommend Shelford Post Office as one of the friendliest I've ever been to.

I could elaborate at length about the songs, but if a picture speaks a thousand works then a song must manage at least 10 or so. Check the album out here
